Biography/history Frané Lessac studied at the New School for Social Research, New York City and also at the University of Southern California and University of California, Los Angeles. She has travelled extensively and her illustrated books are often based on her journeys. Lessac has exhibited her paintings internationally and has participated in many workshops involving the process of writing and illustrating books. She has published over 35 books for children and has won numerous awards for her illustrations. Mark Greenwood is an author with a passion for Australian history. He is also a musician who has worked for major record labels and completed numerous recordings for the world's foremost recording artists and record producers. His books aim to encourage an appreciation of Australia's unique myths and legends and he has twice won the Western Australian Premier’s Award for children’s books. He often collaborates with his wife Frané Lessac and Simpson and his donkey is one such collaboration. Published in 2008, it was written by Greenwood and illustrated by Lessac.
